The following guide takes you through the steps to buying a home, including timelines giving you the knowledge to proceed confidently and save time and money in the process.
Here is a typical timeline for a purchase in England & Wales, however timescales may vary due to the buyer’s and seller’s circumstances and any additional issues arising from conveyancing delays:
Find a property: Search Estate Agents and search websites for homes.
Put in an offer: Provide the seller with a value you are willing to pay for the property.
It’s accepted: Now get a survey to check the property’s condition. Your solicitor checks any legal issues
Exchange: You pay your deposit and can’t back out without major cost.
Completion: The balance is now paid in exchange for the keys and deeds. The property is now legally yours.
Important: Nobody is legally bound to complete the deal until exchange of contracts.
